Excel Fostering

The Brief
Excel wanted to showcase the different aspects of support offered in fostering for both the foster parents and foster children, looking specifically at therapeutic support. What better way than to hear the personal experience of real foster carers? The challenge? Fitting filming into 1 day with short daylight hours in winter.
Concept, Production & Delivery
We always like to meet our filming particpants before we start production, that’s part of our all-inclusive film production offer, and key to our process in many ways. We met Trish and Phil virtually to talk about their experience with support they’d had from Excel with their fostering. This inital meeting (which we usually like to do in person) helped us get a feel for who they were as people, and let them get a feel to us too. This meeting is also research for us. It enabled us to write an accurate script before filming, allowed us to understand what Trish and Phil’s experience was like, and also gave us some ideas for some supporting footage we might be able to film - things they lliked doing such as cooking, going for walks and crafting. We could then script what visuals would go alongside their interview, and also helped us to plan the filming days effectively. So that one short meeting in the pre production phase of the project really helped to make production and then post production go smoothly!
The Outcome
We made two 2 minute promotional films from the footage and interview for this video campaign. Both films aim to inspire others to consider fostering, showing that there is support for both the children and foster carers.
